The remarkable acoustic of the main hall of the Ucheldre Centre has made it one of the major music venues in North Wales. Concerts range from early music to modern jazz and pop music, and include operatic, chamber, choral, and solo performances.

A chance to perform in a quiet environment. Led by Gorwel Owen, the club is open to all abilities, and all non-plugged-in forms of music.

Music Nicky Spence and Andrew Metthews-Owen 17 July 7.30pm

An evening with Classical Brit Nominee tenor Nicky Spence and award-winning pianist Andrew Matthews-Owen.

The programme includes music by Finzi, Bellini, and Tosti, folksongs by Grace Williams, and Benjamin Britten, and Alun Hoddinott’s vivid depiction of 5 ancient landmarks on Ynys Môn ‘Landscapes’ (words by Emyr Humphreys). The evening concludes with a lighter selection from Nicky’s classical chart-topping CD My First Love (Universal Records).


One of the UK’s leading tenors, at home on both the operatic stage and in the concert hall, Nicky has performed as a soloist at major venues in the UK and abroad with Bryn Terfel, Kiri te Kanawa, and Shirley Bassey.

Music Musical Theatre Workshops 26–29 July 10am –4pm

Join Props Theatre Company in a week of special workshops to learn about, and perform parts from three of the most popular musicals ever — Bugsy Malone, Joseph, and Blood Brothers.

With the help of choreographers, and an artistic director from Anvil Productions, participants will develop a two hour show, incorporating treatments from each musical, and other cabaret style songs. There will be rehearsals on Fri 30 and Sat 31 July.

The show will be performed in the Ucheldre Centre on Saturdays 31 July at 7pm, and 21 August at 2pm.

Primarily for 10–16 year-olds, but over 16s more than welcome to join in.

This year students from Props Theatre School combined with the participants of the workshops at the Ucheldre to create a spectacular musical theatre treat.

Holy Coves interrupt their third UK tour to return to Ucheldre and join local bands Through Colour, Inferno, and Demask for a special tribute show in aid of the Leon Jones Fund.

Holy Coves release their debut EP later this year.

The Runaways are a three piece local band, playing hits from the 50s, and other songs influenced by this great era of music. With their raw rock and roll sound you can sing and dance along to such songs as Mustang Sally, Runaway, and many of Elvis’ greatest hits including Heartbreak Hotel. Music Pianists galore 12 September 3pm

An afternoon of piano music from Beethoven to the blues, featuring pianists from all over Wales, and introduced by Iwan Llewelyn-Jones. The performers are all Iwan’s students, and include national prize-winners, and graduates of the Royal Academy and Royal College of Music. Refreshments available.

Music Vocal workshops with Marian Bryfdir 18 September 10am–5pm
Vocal Workshops with Marian Bryfdir and WNO Choral Singing Day

Improve the way you sing, and enjoy your singing even more!

A series of four vocal workshops with renowned voice coach Marian Bryfdir, in a step-by-step course to encourage correct breathing and posture, eliminate muscular tension, free the voice, and produce a healthy and more beautiful sound through a series of exercises and songs.

Workshops will be held in a relaxed, friendly, and supportive atmosphere, and are open to all levels of ability from beginners to more practised singers wishing to further develop their voices. The series also includes a Welsh National Opera (WNO) Choral Singing Day. The series will be followed in early 2011 by a new course of four opera workshops (15 Jan, 12 Feb, 12 Mar, and 3 Apr), leading to the opportunity to perform in Swansea City Opera’s production of Tosca on 16 April.
